Dr. Ike Chioke

A native of the Obioma Kingdom in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State in Nigeria, he undertook his primary education at St. Patrick’s Primary School in Coal Camp and Ekulu Primary School in G.R.A. both in Enugu. He then proceeded to Federal Government College Jos in 1976 for his secondary school education where he graduated with 7As in his WAEC exams in 1982. He continued his education at the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University and graduated in 1987 with First Class (Honours) in Civil Engineering. In 1988, he won the Rhodes Scholarship for Nigeria and proceeded to the University of Oxford the following year as a Rhodes Scholar. He graduated from Oxford in 1991 with an M.Phil. in Management Studies.
Dr. Chioke’s financial services industry career started in 1988 in the tax department of Arthur Andersen in Lagos. From there, he went on to join other renowned global financial institutions including Goldman Sachs in New York from 1991 to 1997, and Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup in New York and London from 1997 to 2002. Dr. Chioke worked briefly with a UK-based financial advisory firm between 2002 and 2003 before establishing Afrinvest in Nigeria in 2004. With over three decades of investment banking experience, Dr. Chioke has been involved in structuring, executing, and financing over $50 billion of transactions with multiple governments, corporates, and high networth individuals between Europe, North America, and Africa across the industrial, manufacturing, financial services, telecommunications, media, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors.
Dr. Chioke supports numerous governments, businesses and charitables causes on a pro bono basis across multiples platforms notable of which include serving as a Non-Executive Director of Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Chairman of Royal Exchange General Insurance Company Limited, Chairman of Fitness Factory Limited, National Secretary for the Rhodes Scholarship for West Africa, Non-Executive Director of ServiPower Company Limited, and Patron of Obioma Central School Education Foundation.
Dr. Chioke is married to Yvonne te Wierik and they live with their three daughters between Lagos, Rotterdam, and Enugu.
