Hon. Malachy Agbo Ph.D.

Agbo started his journalism career with a Kano state based magazine, THE HOST in the year 2000 before joining THISDAY newspapers in 2002. From there he moved over to Diamond Bank Plc in 2006 as Head, Media & External Relations, a position he held until 2011, when he returned to THISDAY as Deputy Editor, Sunday Business.
Thereafter, Dr. Agbo launched out in May, 2012 to set up THE CITIZEN, an online newspaper to espouse national development through good governance. At THE CITIZEN, he strives to uphold the tenets of true journalism, as evidently expressed by its choice of content and manner of dissemination. THE CITIZEN is an ardent advocate of free market economy.
On January 7, 2016, he was appointed the Transition Chairman of Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State, a position he held till August 2017. On December 4, 2017, he was sworn in as the elected Chairman of the local government after coming victorious in the local government election. While at the helm of affairs in the local government, he recorded landmark achievements in infrastructures and human development. In December 2019, he was appointed the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Enugu State. He held the position to May 2023. On August 10, 2023, Dr. Agbo was sworn in as the honourable Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Enugu State.
He is a member of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Member, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Founding President, Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, among other professional bodies.
He is happily married and blessed with children.
